Last weekend I got through to the National Final of the BMC YCS for the 2nd year in a row so I’ve decided to write a blog!

I started climbing almost as soon as I could walk. I didn’t start seriously until aged 6 I watched a round of the BRYCS at The Foundry in Sheffield and decided that was what I wanted to do. I was too young that year and the year after but started climbing regularly at weekends. In my first year I didn’t do that well in the rounds. BUT last year I came 1st in Peak Area getting to the National Final at Ratho! I came 19th. http://www.thebmc.co.uk/bmcNews/media/u_content/file/competitions/BRYCSN.... I hope I can do even better this year!

From this I got to do 2 National Academy training days with Dave Binney, Steve McClure, Rob Napier, Tom Randall and Katy Whittaker.

I train at Wads at the Climbing Works and The Foundry Academy at The Foundry. I also try to climb one day at the weekend, if no competitions (Rab Bouldering at The Edge or YCS). At the age of 7 was asked to try out for the first ever selection day for The Foundry Academy and got in as one of the youngest members! At that point it was supported by local elite climbers and sponsored by Moon Climbing. This meant I had training from Jerry Moffatt, Steve McClure, and Rob Napier among others climbers.

I LOVE GRIT, so when the weather is good I try to get outside to climb as much as possible (instead of Saturday sessions or during holidays). We live on the edge of the Peak District so I like to get out on the Gritstone. My nearest crag is Wharncliffe but I prefer Stanage or Burbage. I have lead on pre-placed gear first time aged 7 (Bumbler’s Arete (M) at Stanage) but I am desperate to do a proper lead on my own gear. I hope to do this in the next few months then fill my logbook with a few more!
