Suppose I better write a blog entry then! (AKA coming back from injury)
The weekend of the last week of term, I took an indoor lead fall on a 6c route I've lead many times before. This normally wouldn't be a problem but I was clipping and my foot slipped. ANNOYINGLY I left my thumb behind! Then when it followed I STUPIDLY slammed it in into the wall.
This was was very painful
and I was unable to move it and involved a trip to A&E and X-rays! I was initially thought to be fractured but it wasn't when they reviewed the X-rays!
I was told to rest it for a couple of weeks which was really annoying as we were due to go to the Pyrenees to do some sport climbing amongst other things!
So we did go to the Pyrenees and by the end of the holiday by thumb was much better and ready for more climbing. SO we went to Le Cardou near Rennes-les-Bains and I did my first 2 outdoor sport leads!!!!!!
It was far to hot to climb anymore (35C). Didn't manage the last lead - mix of just being too hot and hairy scary move above clip. Realized the fall has effect my head more than thought!!!![]()
SO back to the climbing wall to sort out my HEAD and stamina. Been enjoying getting back to endurance training having not climbed much over the summer - difficult to start with but is getting easier.
Today I've been working on a 7a lead ground bottom part was nailed really quickly but then got to a hairy clip and got scared that would fall whilst clipping again! Spent a while working through how to get past the move then came of just above as exhausted! Came down rested then went back and past the clip cleanly
but then when working the moves higher came off and too tired to try again today
. Think I've made a big breakthrough with my head
! Need to get back up soon. Saw Becky Hall today she's just getting back climbing after a fracture of her back, she encouraged me to keep working at it!
